Matthew Cassar   - "Tiegħi" / NEWS: 16/02/2016

During the evening of Friday 18th of March, we were invited to Matthew Cassar exhibition entitled "Tiegħi" an art exhibition focusing on interaction between the public and the artist. In the past year and a half the artist worked in different locations where members of the public were asked to complete unfinished copies of his work. From these paintings he finished his own, basing his ideas directly on those drawn by the public. Both sets of paintings were exhibited for an interesting comparison.

The artist prepared the bright and colourful base of the canvas and made a copy of it for the public's perusal. Each member of the public coming from different sectors such as an elderly people's home, a hospital and a school were invited to draw something which they like and something which they hate. Later, the artist made use of the public's drawings by translating their symbols into his own pieces of artwork.

On 30/01/2016 Outdoor Artists was present for the ''Le Salon - Rebirth'' session, organized by the poet Miriam Calleja. The serene atmosphere at the Carmelite priory, helped us delve deep into philosophy around the ''Rebirth'' theme. Artists and authors expressed themselves by reading out their own poems, and discussing their visual work. The actual works of visual arts and literature motivated us to informally discuss various topics related to themes such as death, the self, and metamorphosis.

Today we were invited to the studios of ŻfinMalta Dance Ensemble, Malta's national dance company who is also the resident company at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta. The studios where resonating with good vibes and a positive energy by the artistic director, dancers and coaches alike during their rehearsals. Each passionate acrobatic movement was followed by dancing vibrations on the parquet.

This invitation transpired into a positive discussion about potential ways in which both organisations can come together and collaborate to create an artistic atmosphere that involves having various artistic disciplines come together. As a young and budding dance company, Å»finMalta is open to new artistic ideas, and we look forward to organise a co-joint event in the near future. We would like to wish ''Toi Toi'' to all the dancers and performers out there!

''The dance can reveal everything mysterious that is hidden in music, and it has the additional merit of being human and palpable. Dancing is poetry with arms and legs.''

Today we visited Andrew Smith and Oliver, both members of the group ''Plein Air Painters of Malta''. Even though the weather was not favorable, Andrew and Oliver gathered at the Serenity Garden in St.Lucia where they had the opportunity to paint a beautiful scenery combined with a dull and rainy day. Andrew and Oliver are two of the many members of ''Plein Air Painters of Malta'' who meet every Saturday in different localities to capture on paper or on Canvas the Maltese beautiful scenery; a local passer by was very much interested in the various techniques they were applying to create their art work.

Visual Artists interested to join this group, please visit: ''Plein Air Painters of Malta''
